Citations

People that write certain articles put lots of work into the research for the article as well as writing the article itself. If no one used citations then credit would not be given where due. If someone is going to work hard enough to create an extensive, credible article they deserve for people to know that we used their work. When looking at our blog specifically, we are trying to show the different research that UNC staff and students are doing. We want our readers to know that what we are saying is credible and that it is happening here in Chapel Hill. Additionally, with citations our readers can follow where our data is coming from and read more into a topic if they are confused about a difficult idea. Additional reading may give readers a place to start if they are still interested in learning more after reading our blog.

We will use MLA citations for serious scientific articles which we find on databases or on websites which you have to pay to access. We feel like MLA is the most common and traditional citation format. A lot of our readers will be able to understand it because many readers have used it before. This will allow our readers to easily follow our ideas and our argument. Since less formal articles are more clearly accessed by a link, we will not use full MLA for other blog posts and other simple websites. This will allow our readers to pause in our blog if they find an idea interesting and quickly  go read more about it without having to scroll to the bottom and find the work cited page. We also chose to do a less traditional work cited and just list our sources at the end of our article.

Intro Post

As current students and avid fans of University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC), this blog is designed to offer our group’s different opinions and on-campus experiences. With group members from a wide variety of backgrounds, we hope to give insight about how the unique diversity affects our school. The blog will include different post that cover various subject matters including the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities. Through our posts, readers will have a better perception of the available areas of study here at UNC and the academic research that is connected. This inside knowledge will help current and future students decide on a course of study.

Christopher John Brodowicz

Howdy, my name is Christopher John Brodowicz but I go by C.J. I am a freshman from Charlotte, NC. I attended Charlotte Catholic High School and played football, basketball and baseball. I moved to Charlotte from Indianapolis, IN going into my freshman year in order to be closer to family. It was from that moment on that I became a Tar Heel fan. I am currently studying for a Chemistry major in hopes of going to UNC medical school. In preparation for this I am working on volunteering at the local hospital. I am also hoping to complete either a major or minor in mathematics. With all that I learn from Chapel Hill I hope to eventually become an anesthesiologist.

Daniel Ginn

My name is Daniel Ginn and I am a sophomore from Charlotte, North Carolina. After an injury plagued senior season, I decided not to pursue my basketball career. I enrolled in the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Business Major. Although I was the only person in my family who wasn’t a huge Tar Heel fan, I had fallen in love with Chapel Hill after visiting numerous times to see friends from high school. During the summer following my freshman year I became a part-time trainer at the local gym. I enjoyed this experience so much I immediately declared a double major in Exercise and Sports Science to become a fitness professional. My most recent endeavor has me taking my chances as a club DJ. I hope that I can incorporate all three of these areas into my future career and continue to enjoy these interests no matter what I end up doing.

Tyshawn Sutton

Hello, my name is Tyshawn Sutton and I am currently a first year student and the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. I am originally from Long Island, New York but in 2007 my mom relocated our family to Charlotte. I toured UNC’s campus during high school and immediately feel in love with the environment and decided to apply. As of right now my major is undecided, but I am following a Pre-Dental track with hopes of going to Dental School after graduating. I work on campus at the Morehead Planetarium and Science Center as a Guest Relations Office Assistant, and every week I volunteer at Glenwood Elementary tutoring 4th grade students in math. I have really enjoyed my time at UNC thus far and I hope I continue to make many new friends and experiences.

Patrick Mateer

My name is Patrick Mateer and I am a freshmen at the University of North Carolina. My time here so far has fostered my interests in public service and politics. My great experience in my first political science class made me decide to declare it as my major. I am also an economics major and a minor in math. I have found many service opportunities, especially through the Bonner Leader Program. Through this program, I work in the Abbey Court neighborhood tutoring children and delivering food. I have also found a great community here on the UNC Crew team. Becoming a Tar Heel has allowed me to express my passions.

Scott Karan

My name is Scott Karan and I am a freshman at UNC Chapel Hill. I am originally from Silver Spring, Maryland but when my father got out of the army my family moved to Pinehurst. During high school i played both soccer and tennis. My sister and I have always been competitive with each other, so it was only natural that when my sister decided to go Duke I had my mind set on going to Carolina. I have yet to decide what I want to major in, but I am confident that with Carolina’s vast amount of courses, events, and clubs I will be able to find something I am truly passionate about.
